George Washington

We proudly displayed the Happy Hounds' work on George Washington in the hall. We have been amazed at how much progress our children have made in writing this year. Below are some of examples. (It was difficult to get a clear, up close picture.)

Will wrote: George Washington won the war. The soldiers didn't have any food. They couldn't build a fire. He became the first President.

Kailea wrote: George Washington had 26 dogs when he was a little boy. When he was big he was President. He fighted the war. He won it. He found a dog and he returned it. He looked on the tag to figure out who it belonged to. He was the President. He learned how to ride a horse when he was a boy. He had a lot of animals. He liked animals. He loved children. He was kind and he liked to help people.

Tripp wrote: George Washington was the first President. He had thirty-six dogs in his lifetime. He is on the dollar and the quarter. He was 43 when the war started.

Rilee wrote: George Washinton was a President. He was the first President. He found a lost dog and he read the collar. And everybody liked him. He got a new animal. It was a donkey.

Ethan wrote: George Washington is on the dollar and the quarter. He found the dog and took the dog back.

BCPS Gold Award Celebration

President's Day Activities

We began the week by watching a short video from United Streaming about the origin of President's Day. On Wednesday we focused on President Lincoln. We read books, watched a movie, made a hat, and wrote about our 16th President.

Will, Kailea, and Talmadge working on their hats.

Michael showing off his hat.

Our math activites all week focused on money, Lincoln and Washington.

Our Funky Food activity on Friday was Never Tell a Lie Cherry Pies. The snack was inspired by Washington's cherry tree story. We don't have a picture of the snack before it was eaten but below are Kylie and Ethan enjoying this tasty treat.

After reading a book and watching a video about President Washington, the Hounds wrote their hearts out telling what they'd learned. We were sooo impressed with their work! The next day we made paper George Washingtons to go with the writing. Stay tuned for pictures of their work displayed in the hall.

Valentine's Day

Enjoy the slide show of our Valentine's celebration.

Snow Day

Our science experiment for Jan 29th was Insta Snow! First we added water to the powder.
Then POOF! We had snow!! It was loads of fun to play in and even cool to the touch.

Rilee, Karlie, and Amber soooo excited!

Up to their elbows in the snowy stuff; Kylie, Will, Owen and Jazmine.

Mrs. Gwen couldn't resist getting in on the fun.

We also made each other into snowmen using toilet paper with hats, gloves, and scarfs to accessorize.

Rilee, Karlie and Tripp showing off their creation.

Miles the snowman with his creators Buck and Talmadge.

Kylie and Jazmine show off Madison the snowgirl.

Rilee shows off her snowflake creation.

To end the day, we made Defrosty the Snowman. Thanks to Owen's family for providing the ingredients for this Funky Food activity.

Welcome to the Pack!

We are excited about beginning a blog. This will take up where the Happy Hound webpage left off (minus a couple of months). Please be patient as we learn the ins and outs of blogging. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
