FUNtastic Friday

What a wonderful Friday the Happy Hounds had!!

Our science experiment, Color Changing Milk, was a big hit. The Dawn dish detergent made the fat molecules in the milk spin out of control which made the food coloring burst like fireworks.

Our Funky Food for the letter I, Icky Inchworms, was easy to make and very yummy!!

But, the best part of the day was our "emergency"!! Humpty Dumpty (who had been hanging out on our All Wall) fell to the ground and broke into pieces and the Dish and the Spoon ran away! The King left us a note asking if we could break the code and find the Dish and the Spoon. We worked as a team to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Then we had to follow the "at" family clues to locate the Dish and the Spoon. We found them hanging out above the crab tank in the office!

What an exciting day!! Fridays in kindergarten are the best!!

Fun Times

Our Funky Food activity for August 26th was Humpty Dumpty. We have been reading nursery rhymes and practicing rhyming words in class. This was a fun and yumy way to revisit Humpty.

Thanks to Lola's family for providing the ingredients for Humpty and a special thanks to Lola's mom for helping out with the snack.

The Hounds LOVE to dance. Below are pictures of our class getting down to the Tooty-Ta. The song is on the Silly Songs CD that we gave you at the beginning of the year.
That means YOU can Tootyy-Ta at home!!

I WANNA BE A ROCK STAR!!!!

Introducing Mr. West, our very own Rock Star!!

The Happy Hounds LOVE going to music on Thursdays. He gets them up and moving.

"Booty Magnets" - little pieces of green or pink tape on the carpet that booties must sit on when given the signal.

Mr. West's helper, Spike. We hear Spike stories every day they return from music. You never know what that crazy arachnid will do!!

And the very best part.....he reinforces what we are teaching in the classroom. Below are pictures of the Hounds practicing rhyming words. He taught them to wiggle their "ends" when the words rhyme because rhyming words sound the same at the "end". Why didn't I think of that!!!!

G...G...G... Geyser

Our best science experiment so far has been the Mentos Geyser. The Happy Hounds anxiously await the eruption by chanting and doing the sign for the first sound of g (as in geyser)

Mrs. Martin has loaded the Mentos tube and is getting ready to pull the cord.

WOO HOO!!! Look how high it went. Higher than the utility pole???? Maybe not, it just appears that way in the picture.

Funtastic Fridays

WOW!! Fridays in the Happy Hounds' classroom are FUNTASTIC!!

On our first Friday, we watched cans implode for our Sensational Science experiment. Below, Mrs. Hood is getting set to turn the can with heated water upside down in a tub of cool water.

1..2..3...IMPLODE!!

Our Sensational Science Experiment for last week was Color Mixing. We colored whipped cream with food coloring and then mixed it together. We learned that yellow + red = orange and

red + blue = purple.

Mason and Lily making orange

Chris mixing up some purple.

Mason loving science!
