WOW!!!

We've conducted some cool demonstrations with dry ice over the past couple of years. This year Mrs. Martin (the Spunky Monkey's teacher) bumped it up a notch and made a bubble to catch the gas. Unbelievable!!!

Halloween Fun

We had loads of fun celebrating Halloween. We heard Pirate Patty tell spooky stories and danced to fun Halloween songs.

One of our Funky Food activities during Halloween time was Sweet Scarecrows. Thanks to Anna Rose's family for providing the ingredients and her mom for coming to help.

Gutsy the Fox

On Friday, the whole school gathered in the gym to hear a lesson on bullying from our friend Gutsy the Fox. Gutsy is a high flying, basketball playing fox who comes to our school every year to teach us about important things. This year he used the letters in his name to help us learn about bullying.

Give Respect
Understand and Encourage
Team Up
Stomp Out Bullying
You Choose

I took a video of Gutsy in action, but I had my camera turned vertically. I can't figure out how to turn the video, so please turn your head or your computer to watch :). I also couldn't figure out how to center the video on the page, but I think you'll get the idea.

You can learn more about Gutsy by visiting his website: www.gutsytheflyingfox.com

Community Helpers

Our next door friends in Mrs. Chitwood's class invited us over to see Officer Neal and Jo-Jo to go along with our study of community helpers. Jo-Jo is a 6 year old German Shepard trained to sniff out drugs. His reward when he finds the drugs is to play with his favorite toy, a Cong. We hid his Cong in the room twice and he found it in less than a minute both times. In the picture below, you can see the the Cong sticking out of his mouth.

WOO! HOO! we got a new counter for our computers. No more large tables and lots more room. This actually tied in well with our community helpers unit. The Hounds got to see (and hear) service workers in action.. We were so thrilled with our new addition that we made the men who installed the counter Rice Krispy Treats and wrote them a thank you note.

Purple Volcanoes

Our color for this week was purple, so for our Sensational Science activity we made Purple Volcanoes. We started with grape juice then alternated baking soda and vinegar. There were lots and lots of OOHS! and AAHS!! It was a big hit!!!

Funky Food

Our Funky Food activity for this week was Jaminn' Jungle Juice and Jungle Cookies. Most everyone loved the lime jello and lemonde drink. Mrs. Hood "loved" the sound of jello being slurped through a straw!

Lily's mom came to help the previous week when we made Unbelievable Upside Down Cake. She read Great Day for Up by Dr. Seuss while we were waiting on the cake to cook.
