Friday, October 19th was another Funtastic Friday in the Happy Hound classroom. Kolby's Aunt Kelly visited and talked with us about germs. She gave us this special glow-in the-dark lotion to rub on our hands. We looked at our hands under a black light to see all the lotion. Then we washed our hands and looked again under the black light. We found out that many of us don't do a really good job of washing all the germs away when we wash out hands. So... Ms. Kelly taught us to sing the ABC song while we're scrubbing our hands with soap and water. Hopefully this will help!! She also brought petri dishes for us to see where all germs grow in and around our classroom. We'll get these back Tuesday. YUCK!!
Since we have been talking about fire safety this week, our funky food snack was a fire truck and our science experiment was a cool demonstration with fire.

Cool fire truck |

What will happen when we lower this candle into the vase? |
It continues to burn. |
Now mix baking soda and vinegar in the vase to create carbon dioxide. |
The invisible gas put the fire out. |
When we put the lighted candle in another container, nothing happens once again. |
BUT..... when we pour the carbon dioxide into the second container and place the candle back in......... |
The fire goes out!!!!! |
Do it again!!! |

This is such a cool experiment to watch. They love to see me "pour" the gas into the second container. You can find this experiment on Steve Spangler's web sight.
