How Strong Is An Egg?

For our science experiment the week before Easter, we tested several eggs to find out how many books we could pile on top of them. We repeated the experiment using different sized books  It was amazing how many much weight an egg could support.

We placed the egg in a "nest" of playdough.

We balanced a pan on top of the egg using blocks.

Then we stacked books on top of the pan, counting as we went.

Crash!! I think we were able to stack 31 (??) medium sized books before the egg gave way.

Yuck!!
