You'll notice some new faces in these pictures. This is the first week that we've combined our community classes. We split all the children from the six community classrooms into six different groups. Each group has kindergarten, first, and second grade children in it. It was lots of fun and great to see the different aged children interacting with each other.
FIREWORKS
In one of the classes, the children experimented with the fat molecules in milk. They placed drops of food coloring in milk and touched the center of the drop with a clean Q-tip. Nothing happened. Then they dipped the Q-tip in Dawn dishwashing liquid and touched the center of the food coloring drop. The colors quickly shot away from each other. The reason: the dish detergent repelled the fat molecules in the milk. We were able to see this because of the food coloring.
Sparklers
In a different classroom, they made yummy Sparkers (rod pretzels, icing, and sprinkles).
