Teeth, Bears, and Birthdays

The week of Feb. 22nd was packed with lots of activities. Our social science topic for the week was dental health. We learned about how to take care of our teeth by reading books, watching videos, and through our science experiment.

On Monday, we began an experiment to see how coke effected our teeth. The shell on the egg represents the enamel on our teeth. We let the eggs soak all week in the coke. On Friday, we tried to scrub the stains off with toothpaste. In the first picture, Will and Kylie are working hard to clean their egg.



During shared reading this week we read three different versions of The Three Bears. We wrote about our favorite version and made a picture of the three bears to go with our writing.



We are so proud of the writing our Happy Hounds are doing this year. These two pics show the walls outside our classroom. The top writing is a letter to the tooth fairy.



Levi wrote: In the beginning of the story, the porridge was hot so the bears went to catch catfish. In the middle of the story, Goldilocks came in their house. In the end of the story, Goldilocks jumped out the window.



Kylie wrote: In the beginning, Goldilocks went in the house. In the middle of the story, Goldilocks ate the porridge. In the end of the story, she jumped out the window.


Buck wrote: In the beginning of the story, the bears went to go get catfish. In the middle of the story, Goldilocks ate the porridge and she broke the chair. In the end of the story, baby bear's voice screamed like a siren and it scared Goldilocks and she jumped out the window.




Last but certainly not least, we celebrated two birthdays this week. On Thursday, Owen's mom made a cupcake cake for the class. On Friday, Kailea's family brought us cupcakes. Thanks to both families for our special treats.
